Advance Deterministic Safety Analysis For A Next-Generation Molten Salt Reactor

At Saltfoss Energy we are developing a nuclear power plant concept fundamentally different from what exists today. By bringing to market an advanced molten salt reactor we are making nuclear an inexpensive, sustainable, and scalable technology that can make fossil fuels a thing of the past and revolutionise energy markets. The opportunity to make an impact on climate change and provide millions of people with cheap and accessible energy is what inspires all of us every day.

Creating an innovation that can impact the world isn’t easy and requires a diverse team bringing together a range of talents and perspectives. We know that we cannot do this alone, so we work closely with regulators, shipyards, academic institutions, and the nuclear industry from all over the world to develop technologies and materials so we can produce an advanced floating nuclear power plant.

This is your chance to become part of a collaborative research environment where you can chart an uncommonly diverse career and help change the world. Saltfoss’ work environment allows for great influence, the possibility to take on responsibility, and personal growth but also demands flexibility.

THE ROLE

We are looking for a Senior Nuclear Safety Analyst with experience performing deterministic safety analysis, deep understanding of nuclear safety principles, and good communication skills.

In this role, you will contribute to system-level simulations, specifically using and enhancing deterministic safety analysis codes, tailored to molten salt reactor environments. You will actively participate in the continuous improvement of methodologies for safety assessments, collaborate closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams, and support the safety case development and licensing applications.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & TASKS

  • Modelling and simulation of postulated event sequences selected for the design and licensing of the reactor.
  • Support engineering design activities from a nuclear safety perspective. Including but not limited to: Demonstrate the capability of safety design provisions to perform safety functions under postulated event sequences, provide feedback on the engineering design process, evaluate safety margins and defense in depth adequacy, and demonstrate compliance with safety acceptance criteria.
  • Support licensing activities related to the safety case preparation and associated documentation.
  • Contribute to the general implementation of the nuclear safety approach.
  • Contribute to the growth and development of the nuclear safety team.

PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCIES

  • MSc. or equivalent in a relevant field (e.g. nuclear engineering).
  • Experience working in nuclear safety, supporting the design and licensing of nuclear power plants.
  • Minimum 6 years of experience using GOTHIC code to perform deterministic safety analysis for nuclear power plants.
  • Experience with software development or adaptation of nuclear system analysis tools is an advantage but not a requirement.
  • Experience applying a risk-informed performance-based regulatory framework for an advanced reactor is an advantage but not a requirement.

PERSONAL COMPETENCIES

  • You are team-oriented and collaborative.
  • You have a strong ability to communicate transparently and clearly with team members and stakeholders.
  • You are self-motivated and capable of working autonomously to meet project deadlines.
  • You are proactive in seeking out new opportunities and addressing potential issues.
  • You balance big-picture thinking with attention to detail when needed.

WHAT WE OFFER

  • The chance to work on ground-breaking technology that will impact the global energy landscape.
  • Working closely with globally acknowledged experts in the field.
  • An international and diverse team.
  • Personal and professional development opportunities and support.
