Job Description Are you the new Associate Professor in Fungal Biology and Biosolutions at DTU Bioengineering? The Stilling offers an opportunity to join DTU's strong research ecosystem within mycology and fungal biosolutions, and to leverage DTU's unique fungal strain collection to develop much needed biosolutions with the agriculture, food, and medical sector. Responsibilities And Qualifications Your overarching responsibility will be to strengthen the department's international profile in fungal-based biosolutions addressing major global and planetary challenges, guided by your deep insight into the foundational biology of fungi and their ecological roles. You are expected to be a key contributor in describing and exploring the vast functional diversity represented in DTU's fungal strain collection (IBT). This includes actively expanding the collection through the isolation of new strains, as well as generating high-quality phenotypic and omics-based datasets. Together, these efforts will contribute to building one of the world's most comprehensively documented fungal collections. You will further be expected to exploit this unique resource to address fundamental scientific questions within evolution, cell biology, ecology, genome-phenotype relationships, using state-of-the-art data science, bioinformatics, and high-throughput, robotics-assisted experimentation. Teaching and supervision of the Næste generation of biotechnologists and research leaders is a core element of DTU's mission. You will therefore contribute to teaching and curriculum development for classes within areas such as biodiversity, fungal biology and biotechnology, and data science approaches for the analysis of biological datasets. And supervise BSc, MSc and PhD students, and mentor postdocs and tenure track assistant Professors. You will join the Section for Synthetic Biology, which hosts a strong international research environment with expertise in fungal biology and biotechnology, molecular genetic engineering platforms, fermentation, laboratory automation, and data science. The section values open scientific discussion and actively encourage knowledge sharing across research groups and disciplines in a trust-based environment—we are colleagues, not competitors. Your primary tasks as an Associate Professor will be to: Lead your own research initiatives within fungal biology and biosolutions and secure the necessary external funding for your activities from philanthropic foundations, and via collaboration with the private sector. Manage the operations of your research group. Grow DTU's international network with mycology and data science. Teach relevant courses, supervise BSc, MSc and PhD students, and mentor postdocs and tenure track assistant Professors. Contribute to the strategic development of the department's research and teaching portfolio, with a special emphasis on fungal biotechnology and data science. We are seeking a candidate with: Expertise in fungal biology incl. molecular cell biology, ecology, and evolution, and the development of fungal-based biosolutions. A proven track record to attract funding for foundational and applied scientific projects from national and international sources. Documented experience with public-private collaborative projects. Strong management and administrative skills as needed for leading a research group. The capacity to foster an inspiring research environment through knowledge-sharing, and engagement with peers in the section, department, and across DTU. As formal qualification you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent) as well as academic qualifications equivalent to those obtained by holding an assistant professorship and documented didactic/pedagogic training. You must be responsible for the teaching of courses. DTU employs two working languages: Danish and English. You are expected to be fluent in at least one of these languages, and in time are expected to master both. You will be assessed against the responsibilities and qualifications stated above and the following general criteria: Experience and quality of teaching Research experience Research vision and potential International impact and experience Societal impact Leadership, collaboration, and interdisciplinary skills Communication skills Innovativeness, including commercialization and collaboration with industry Salary and terms of employment The offered Stilling is a full-time permanent faculty Stilling, and with an expected start date of July 1 st , 2026.
