THE ROLE

We are looking for a Chemical Engineer to lead and support the design, construction, and execution of test rigs and prototype apparatus, including molten salt loops. You will also be involved in building, commissioning and decommissioning of experimental setups of varying scale, complexity, and scope. The knowledge gained is used to support materials and component selection and validate the design solutions of the molten salt reactor.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & TASKS

  • Develop and execute experimental plans to create and test chemical process prototypes.
  • Design and procure standard components like instrumentation, sensors, heaters, valves, pumps.
  • Analyse chemical compositions, reactions, and performance characteristics of the experiments.
  • Build, operate, and troubleshoot lab and pilot-scale experiments.
  • Collaborate with specialists and technicians to develop and establish suitable assembly methods, tools, and routines for experiments that conform with relevant standards and ensure data validation.
  • Conduct risk assessment and ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of design activities, lab work, and experimental results, providing recommendations for process improvements.

PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCIES

  • You hold a BSc or MSc in chemical engineering, process/production engineering, chemistry, or a related field.
  • You bring 5+ years of experience from an applied research institution or from an industrial sector linked to chemical processes.
  • You have strong knowledge of inorganic chemistry and chemical processes at high temperatures.
  • You have experience with chemical technology scale-up from laboratory to relevant environment prototype scale.
  • You have experience in test rig design, procurement, assembly, and operations of standard components, such as pumps, valves, heat exchangers.
  • You manage projects effectively - from planning and scheduling to communication and resource allocation.
  • Experience with thermodynamic or kinetic studies, and with molten salt chemistry, is a plus.
